Issue 19 – Submissions Wanted!

Image
We’re back for more! After spending 4 years doing nothing but eating biscuits (cookies, for our North American friends), we’re back for our 2nd issue in 3 months!
September will see us release Issue 19 – and we need contributors!
Whilst we will always accept ANYTHING that is vaguely related to Doctor Who (you just have to read the other 18 to see that) for this particular issue we’re especially looking for: Reviews of Series 10 (Peter Capaldi’s last one) – We’re looking for your thoughts on the series; this can be you going through the episodes, your thoughts on the series as a whole, your favourite moments, your worst moments…whatever you like. There is no maximum word count for this – generally, we get between 500-1000 words for reviews like these, but we’re willing to have more (or less). Just don’t go mad with your big words, this isn’t Buzzfeed.
Your thoughts on the casting of Jodie Whittaker (and the current state of the show) – (Here we go) We're looking for diverse takes on …

Celebrate 10 Years of Fish Custard With 1p Fanzines And A Competition

Image
To celebrate 10 years since the launch of Fish Fingers and Custard, we are going to offer our readers the opportunity to get their hands on some of our swag for 1 pence plus postage costs (so 1p + P+P – we wanted to give them away for free, but our shop provider doesn't allow sellers to enter in a 'zero price'!).

Okay, the Fish Custard storeroom needs clearing out – and it’s either us giving them away or burning them.

The following items are available from our shop now: Issue 2 (two copies left).A 16-page promotional issue that was originally handed out at London Film and Comic Con in 2011 (thirteen copies left).Pin badge sets (three sets left). Once they’re gone, they’re gone – and please only order one item, so there’s more to go around.Thanks.

Win A Historical Fanzine!

Also, we are launching a competition to win the original proof copy of Issue 1 – aside from being the first copy ever printed, it’s nothing special. We’ve no idea why anyone would want it tbh – the covers …

With the world possibly coming to the end, we’d thought it the perfect time to make a dramatic return
to ensure we don't go out on an odd number.

Providing Doctor Who fans with something to read on the toilet since 2010, we are delighted to be back and are ready to tackle the news, views and issues currently surrounding the show. Oh dear.

Packed with the same old nonsense as before (just slightly older and better dressed), in Issue 18, you will find: The Curse of Time – Are all Doctor Who stories with ‘Time’ in the title destined to not be very good? The Doctor Who Cookbook – A review of one of the more ‘left-field’ official publications.10 Years of Fish Custard – How we took 4 years off but still claim to have been ‘fanzining’ for a decade.Returning Villains – Which classic Who baddies are due for a return?Obituaries for John Hurt and Deborah WatlingAnd plenty more besides You can download the issue here (click the link, then save it to your device) or read online here. Please not…

Issue 18 Contribution Details - Doctor Who fan writers wanted!

Image
Celebrating 6-and-a-half years as perhaps the Whoniverse’s most silliest fanzine, Fish Fingers and Custard is back for 2017 and we’re seeking Doctor Who fan writers to help us create our latest issue!
With Doctor Who back in the Spring (finally!) and a Christmas episode and a spin-off series to digest, not to mention this being Steven Moffat’s last series as head writer, we’re very much looking forward to getting stuck into presenting our own thoughts/hopes/fears for the episodes to come. Are you?

Contribute to Issue 18!
What’ve you been doing in the downtime since Doctor Who has been off the air? Watching old episodes? Maybe you’ve discovered the classic series or the many spin-off books and audios? Been to any conventions/events? Maybe you’ve been watching something else entirely – let us know what you’ve been up too!
For Issue 18, we’re seeking reviews/views on the following; The Return of Doctor Mysterio – Super? Or not?Class – the BBC Three spin-off series – what did you think?Do…

Build-A-Companion (Taken from Issue 17)

Image
With the new Doctor Who Companion set to revealed today (23rd April) here is an article from our latest Issue, looking at what sort of companion the showmay go for...
(You can download our latest Issue for free here)
---
As we know by now Jenna Coleman has made her exit from Doctor Who, so we’re on the lookout for a new companion for the upcoming series. So who is next? Which sort of companion (or companions) should The Doctor travel around with? Should he even have a companion? Well yes, otherwise this entire article would be utterly pointless.
So unlike those build-a-bear shops you see littered around the large, uninspiring, zombie-filled shopping centres in major cities around the world - let’s build an uplifting and inspiring companion!
Male?
There’s been a rumbling underground campaign amongst forum-dwellers for a while about this issue. I suppose that Rory has arguably been the only (regular) male companion since the series came back in 2005. Even then, he seemed to play second fiddle…
